Good Afternoon Marching Tigers,
We had a great game this past Friday and had awesome weather for the Labor Day parade. Doesn't get much better than that! This week we have our first away game so our Friday timeline will look different. In addition to having a different looking timeline we are doing a combined pregame with the North Pride, so we must arrive even earlier than a typical away game. Uniforms Quick reminder, uniforms are now at home in your possession. They still need to be dry-cleaned roughly every other use. We have a deal with Tide Cleaners in town to have our uniforms cleaned for $6. This covers the entire uniform. If you only need to get a single piece dry-cleaned the price will be $3 per piece. Please take advantage of this deal through Tide. A good smelling student is a happy student! We will wear our full uniform with purple pants on Friday. Many students on Friday were still not able to get their snap hems at the correct length. Parents can you please help address this by having your child put their bibbers on and adjusting the hem so that there is no gathering of fabric at the ankle. This will be of great help for us and keep us looking sharp! A few corrections about uniform protocol. Students should wear a white t-shirt or section shirt under their fall uniform. At no point should student have their jackets off during the game. The only exception would be the battery when they are taking off their harness's. (But the battery should be putting their jackets back on immediately.) Friday Timeline 3:10 - Dress Rehearsal on band field. 4:10 - Eat a quick snack, change into uniforms, load equipment. 5:15 - Load school busses 5:30 - Depart for North High School 5:50 - Arrive at North High School (parent volunteers meet us at Lakeview at this time) 6:30 - Parade into the stadium 6:45 - Combined Pregame w/North Pride 7:00 - Kick-off TBA - Bus Departure Bussing Expectations When on the busses we are guests of Petermann Transportation. Their rules are to be followed at all times. My rules to for bussing are: 1. No food or drink other than water. 2. Headphones are to be used at all time for music/cellphones. 3. Be quiet, calm and courteous at all times. 4. Bus hopping is not allowed. 5. Chaperones are to be respected and listened to at all times. 5 1/2. Mr Hakes would like to add "NO SCREAMING" Saturday Morning Practice We are practicing Saturday morning. It is MANDATORY and vital for being prepared for our first competition on September 18th. I am aware of the conflict with the ACT, those students are obviously excused. All other students are expected to be in attendance and ready to solidify our show for our first competition. Parent Volunteers Due to the shortness of our trip to North we will only need help taking attendance getting on the busses. No need to ride with us. As always, thank you! Happy Tuesday to everyone,
We had a great game last Friday as well as a good pregame and halftime performance. We are continuing to improve as the season progresses but I must remind everyone that attendance at practice is mandatory. Monday night I experienced the highest absence percentage of my career in the brass section. Of those absent I received notification for 2 students. As a reminder please fill out a planned absence form if you know you have an unavoidable conflict. If you have a last minute absence a short email will suffice just fine. Today I will cover the following info: Friday Timeline Uniforms for Friday Labor Day Parade info and Concert at Victory Park Friday Night Timeline 3:10 - Dress rehearsal on band practice field 4:10 - Dismiss. Take instruments with you! 5:30 - Report to Ridgeview parking lot. Students park in grass lot closest to C3 church. (on the ridge)* 5:45 - Warm-up 6:25 - Parade from Ridgeview parking lot. Students park in grass lot closest to C3 church. (on the ridge)* 6:50 - pregame 7:00 - Kick-off * In order for for the parking to work I want to encourage SAFE car-pooling and/or parent drop off. Uniforms for Friday and Monday It is a bit too soon given the weather patterns surrounding Hurricane Ida to know what direction to go for Friday. I will announce as soon as possible once I get a clear picture of the Friday night forecast. Keep in mind student safety drives uniform decisions. Not necessarily "Tradition". I will be sure to announce ASAP. Monday will be summer uniforms, white shoes and white ankle socks. Labor Day Parade The Labor Day parade is a Pickerington Tradition. It begins with a parade and ends with a brief concert in Victory Park. Report time is 8am, Step-off for the parade is 10am. The concert start time changes from year to year. It simply begins when the parade has concluded and the bands are completely set-up. The best viewing of the concert is from a lawn chair on the Victory park tennis courts. Students will be dismissed at the conclusion of the concert which has ranged anywhere between 12;30-1:30 in years past. Please come support both awesome bands in Pickerington. UPDATE: I failed to publish the parent volunteers for Friday! Thank you parent boosters for your time! It has been an awesome summer and preseason up to this point. I'm very proud of our members and look forward to finally getting onto a football field and in the stands for Friday's game. Starting this Wednesday (8/25) we will start practicing from 5:30-8:30 pm. We will move our practice time up once more later in the season as the sun continues to set earlier in the evening. Friday Night Timeline 3:10 - Dress rehearsal on band practice field 4:10 - Dismiss. I will take class time to explain this new plan with the entire band in class. Picture Day 8/28 Forms for picture day can be picked up outside my office. The band room will be opened at 10am for uniform pick-up. We ask that all students follow this staggered arrival schedule. 10:00 - Seniors 10:15 - Freshmen 10:30 - Sophomores 10:45 - Juniors If you don't have a full uniform please arrive at 10am, sharp! September 11th Practice from 9am - Noon We will be adding a Saturday morning practice in preparation for our 9/18 contest. We are not behind in our preparation we are on track to have the minimum 5 minutes of performance to present to the judges to be eligible to qualify for State Marching Band Finals. This practice is NOT punishment of any kind. It will provide us the opportunity to help the kids feel confident with their individual and group performance. Attendance is mandatory as we are only as strong as our present members. Volunteers for Friday Parent volunteers will be issued a badge to wear at all times before entering the visitors side track gate. Brian W. will have the badges for you and will collect them at the end of the night. This does not get you into the press box or into the bleachers. You may bring a folding chair for your comfort. In other words the passes are for field access only. Friday's team consists of the following parents: Erin Gorgas Kelly Brick Leah Varone Patricia Manley Amy Menke Erica Dann Jeff shepherd Jessica Hansen Diane Ouimet Pay to Participate vs. Booster Fees I have yet to receive any updates from the district regarding balance dues for Pay to Participate fees. This is simply a friendly reminder to get it on your "family radar". If you have yet to pay your PTP fee with the district or set up a payment plan with the athletic department the district has the option to prevent your student from participating in marching band performances. The boosters do NOT have the ability to do this with booster fees. We do hope everyone understands that our booster fees help fund the many aspects of the band that the school does not. Our parents will be able to see and hear what your dollars support at our first contest on 9/18. All,
We are finally to the eve of our first official practice for the 2021 Marching Band Season. Myself and the rest of the staff are looking forward to getting everyone back into action! Before tomorrow here are a few reminders that will make the experience a positive one. 1. Get plenty of rest and start hydrating for practice tonight. 2. Come with your instrument or get to school early so that you can check one out for the season. 3. Dress properly for the weather. No jeans, sweatshirts, flip-flops. It will be humid. 4. Wear the proper footwear. lace up tennis shoes will be best everyday. 5. Hats, sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended. 6. Most importantly, Bring plenty of water. An insulated bottle that holds 64-128 ounces is best. Our Schedule everyday will look something similar to this: 8:00am - All students meet at the flag pole for morning announcements. (Perc and Guard included) 8:15 - Students dismissed with their instructors for Rotation 1 9:15 - Rotation 2 10:15 - Rotation 3/Full ensemble 11:15 - End of rehearsal announcements 11:30 - Dismiss Looking forward to seeing you all at 8am, SHARP!
