Play-off game #1 and SMBF

10/25/2022

All,

This past weekend was a simply fantastic.  The weather, the performances, the behavior, everyone did a fantastic job.  We are very lucky to have such great students and boosters that make days like Saturday possible.  Thank you's aren't nearly enough but I'm eternally grateful and thankful for the efforts of our parents and boosters!

Playoff game #1
This will be our last performance of the halftime show at football games.  If we win and have a second home game we will get into doing show band activities.

Uniform
The band will wear their hats and purple pants with gloves on Friday.  (don't forget black socks)

Friday Timeline
3:10 - Dress rehearsal
4:10 - Dismiss/load/eat
5:45 - Meet at Ridgeview lot/warm-up
6:20 - Parade from Ridgeview lot to stadium
6:50 - Pregame
7:00 - Kickoff

Parent Pick-up
As weather gets colder it is imperative that parents are communicating with their children at the end of games and contests to be picked up.  I will not allow my staff or myself to stay inside the building with single individuals, nor will we put them in our vehicles to transport them home for you.  You may notice that when kids are left behind I ask them to exit the building and wait on the hill for pick-up.  I will watch over them from a distance in my enclosed car.  This is fine in the early fall when it is warm, but as temps drop parents need to be more concerned with picking-up in a timely fashion.

State Contest
This Saturday is the final Contest of the year.  Not all bands earn the privilege of going to State Marching Band Finals.  We have earned the extra special privilege of being the last band to perform on Saturday night at 10:30pm.  The Marching Tigers are one of many bands  Specific information regarding state contest sites, prices and parking can be found here:

Reynoldsburg and Double Contest Day!

10/18/2022

All,

First off, congratulations on a Superior performance at the Buckeye Invitational.  The band performed well and were very well-behaved in the stands.  Thank you for that.  It makes our jobs much easier when the kids are being awesome.

We have a tremendously long yet rewarding weekend ahead of us.  We will travel to Reynoldsburg for the last regular season game then head to two different marching band contests on Saturday for a "Double-Header" day.

Uniforms
It is very important that students are take extra caution to keep their uniforms nice and clean over the next 3 performances.  We do not want any accidents.  As the weather turns hot chocolate might seem like a good idea during our 3rd quarter breaks but it truly isn't worth the risk!

Friday is our full Purple Uniforms and Saturday is all white!  Be sure to bring your garment bag for protecting your uniform on the bus from any dirt and grime when not in uniform Saturday.

Friday Timeline
3:10 - Dress rehearsal with seniors.
4:10 - Load/Change/Eat
5:45 - Depart for Reynoldsburg
6:15 - Arrive
7:00 - Kick off
10:00 - Return to PHSC (No unloading, go sleep!)

Saturday Shows info / Ticket Information for Parents and spectators / General Comments
For students this will obviously be a long day. Encourage them to bring weather-appropriate clothing when not in uniform and cash for concessions. The Boosters will provide a tailgate style meal after the first show at Blendon Woods, Blendon Woods Metro Park.  4265 E Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus OH.

Field Commanders will be left at Newark to collect any awards and judges sheets.  We will get them back to the cookout at the conclusion of the Newark awards.

Newark's contest info can be found at www.newarkbands.org/invitational.html
- Tickets are $8. $5 and under are free
- Please note that Newark's contest is not at Newark High School but parking is.  A free shuttle will take you from the parking area to the stadium.

Thomas Worthington has not posted much info for the public.

Their show is at TWHS.

Senior Night and Buckeye Invitational

10/11/2022

Good Morning Marching Tiger families,

We have a busy weekend ahead of us.  In this FYI there will be two section and timelines, one for Senior Recognition activities and one for the Buckeye Invitational on Saturday.

Friday Senior Recognition

Uniforms for non-seniors is the traditional purple uniform.  WITH HATS and GLOVES. Seniors need to dress nicely for pregame recognition.  Parents will need to find their name on the track 5:30.  (It will be on the ground written on a paper plate.)  Stand there.  If your senior isn't with you, they will be before the recognition begins.  Parents please email me with any questions you might have.

Friday Timeline
Our timeline has been modified quite a bit to accommodate all the seniors, cheer and football being recognized.  If the recognition runs long, we will play amazing grace after pregame in the end-zone for seniors and parents.  The football game has to start at 7pm.

3:10 - Dress rehearsal with seniors.
3:30 - Seniors Dismissed (finish changing then meet parents on track around 6pm.)
3:30 - Underclassmen tunnel rehearsal/ pregame rehearsal.
4:00 - Load/dismiss
5:20 - Underclassmen report to Ridgeview/Warm-up
5:30 - Seniors drop off costumes at Ridgeview band Room.  (Door G)
5:45 - Underclassmen Depart for Stadium (Parents should already be on the track)
6:00 - Underclassmen Form tunnel on track
6:05 - Begin recognizing Seniors
6:40 - Perform Amazing Grace with seniors encircled on the track.  (Seniors take parents inside the tunnel)
6:48 - Band members in uniform make their way back field to perform pregame.
6:50 - Perform Pregame
7:00 - Kick-off/ Seniors report to inside Ridgeview to change.

Saturday Buckeye Invitational

Uniforms
Our uniform for Saturday is the dress white pants and socks.  We will wear gloves and hair will be discussed this week.  It is imperative that all our students wear their WHITE show shirt and light colored shorts.  Unlike other performances, we will travel with our garment bags and hangers. All members will hang their uniforms in their garment bags before returning to Ohio Stadium to watch the rest of the show.

Everyone is encouraged to wear PHSC apparel while seated in the stadium.  I also encourage everyone to bring any weather appropriate gear.  Temperatures may be colder once the sun sets.

Expectations for all Marching Tigers in Ohio Stadium
- Once we have concluded our performance we will meet at the Rotunda for a band photo.
- After the photo we will begin our load-in procedures and change out of our uniforms.
- We will meet at the band trailer as one unit then enter the stadium when all of the loading and changing is finished.
- We will enter the stadium and find seats for the entire band towards the North end of the home side on A deck.
- Students are expected to be in a seat with the band when not getting concessions or using the restroom.  There is to be ZERO horse play.
- If leaving the group for concessions or restrooms I expect students to be in groups of 2 or more.
If any student is found wondering alone a Director, Staff member or Chaperone has the responsibility of escorting the student back to the group.
- Students are expected to cheer for performing bands when appropriate.  Be positive and supportive of all the groups who have earned the invitation to perform in the Shoe.
- No outside food or drink is allowed in Ohio Stadium.  Students should plan to eat dinner on their own.  Note: The stadium has a NO CASH policy this year.  Food prices are expensive in the Shoe.  Plan accordingly.
-
We will stay for the entire show though the OSUMB performance and awards.
- At the conclusion of the evening we will exit as a band.  Do not load the busses until the chaperones have logged you as present on the bus.

All,

We have officially reached the halfway point in the competition season and learned ALL the charts for the show.  This is always a great feeling, but it doesn't mean that we are finished.  Now we start the process of going back through the show and filling in moments where we need more visual content and clean various sets and music.  It is tedious work but makes for am awesome end product.

Buckeye Invitational
Buckeye Invitational tickets for October 15 can be found by clicking the link below.  We perform at 5:45 and will stay the evening to watch the final bands and the Ohio State Marching Band.  Report time for the kids will be in the afternoon.  Make sure they are well fed before coming. Dinner will be on their own in Ohio Stadium after their performance. More detailed info to come!
