Location Change to CWHS for Practice on 9/28

All,

It has been a very challenging week for the Marching Tigers and our preparations for the Buckeye Invitational this Saturday. The staff has been very creative with our lesson planning without the ability to utilize our practice field.  Despite this, there is no substitute for real repetitions of our show on a real field.

On Wednesday evening, I started reaching out to local schools who might have away games so that we might use their facilities.  As it turned out Mr.Chad McGee at Canal Winchester High School recently had his practice field raised with 5 inches of new topsoil and is willing to let us use his perfectly dry practice field!  I checked it out today, it will provide a solid surface for our kids to march on.  He is willing to host us from 4-6pm tomorrow afternoon!

I understand this is an inconvenience for some, however I ask that you be flexible and help us eliminate at least one roadblock to our band's success for Saturday.

The physical address for CWHS is 300 Washington St, Canal Winchester, OH 43110.

The band practice field is located on the main campus and accessed easily if taking the first right turn onto campus when traveling westbound on Washington St.  See picture below for more details.

Needs for the 4 - 6pm rehearsal at CWHS :
1.  Instrument/Equipment (students must transport their own instrument with the exception of Pit percussion and sousaphones)
2. Water
3. Marching shoes and appropriate clothing.

Facility details:
1.  Park along the access road leading to the practice field or in parking spots available.
2.  We do not have access to the school.  We will use the outside restrooms.
3.  Pit percussion and sousaphones will be transported by truck and trailer.
4.  Band staff will return to PHSC following rehearsal so that students can access the band room briefly.
5.  The red arrow illustrates the best path to the band practice field and the right that should be made on Washington St.

PICKERINGTON BAND FEST SCHEDULE AND MORE

9/18/2018

September 18, 2018

1.Pay to Participate
  1. I just wanted to take a second to remind everyone that Pay to Participate fees are NOT a Central Band Booster Fee.  This is a PLSD fee similar to a class fee that is applied to students participating in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.
  2. Paying your pay to participate fee can be done online through your infinite campus portal or in person in the athletic office.
  3. I can not make exceptions or change policies from PLSD.  When I am told they are retaining students for not paying fees I comply with the directive given to me.
  4. The best thing to do is to get the fee paid or set up a payment plan with the athletics office.
2. Tournament of Roses Parade Updates
  1. WE ARE RAFFLING A CAR!  Please go to www.pickeringtonroseparade.com to buy a raffle ticket.  I WANT TO CHALLENGE EVERYONE TO COPY AND PASTE THE LINK ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND TAG 10 FRIENDS AND FAMILY THIS WEEK.  WE NEED TO GET OUR FOOTPRINT OUTSIDE OF PICKERINGTON FOR THIS TO BE A SUCCESS.
  2. Get a foursome ready for our Golf Scramble on October 6th.  See flyer at the end of this blog post!

3. Pickerington Band Festival, September 22
  1.  We will wear our full competition white uniform.
    1. White shirt
    2. White shorts or light colors.  NO BRIGHT OR DARK SHORTS
    3. White long socks.
    4. CLEAN WHITE SHOES.  Take 10 minutes to clean your shoes before Saturday.
  2. Timeline for the day:
4:00 – Report to the field.
5:30 – Load equipment and change
          6:30 – Load buses/depart for PHSN
          7:15 – report to warm-up
          8:15 – Perform
          9:45 – Awards
10:00 – block up to perform Amazing Grace with North
3.     There is no transportation back to Central.  Students must get rides back with parents to hang up uniforms and put
instruments away.  Uniforms are not to go home.
4.     We will provide transportation for percussion and sousaphones.

1.Labor Day recap
  1.  Despite the hot weather we had a great parade and concert in the park.   Thank you to all the parents and friends of the band that helped out!  The labor day event would never happen without great parents volunteering their time.  Thank you so much.

2. Tournament of Roses Parade Updates
  1.  Had a great event with plenty of volunteers from both school at the Road to Pasadena Dinner and Silent Auction.  Thank you!
  2. WE ARE RAFFLING A CAR!  Please go to www.pickeringtonroseparade.com to buy a raffle ticket.  (I will attach the flyer and rules to this blog post)
  3. Get a foursome ready for our Golf Scramble on October 6th.  See flyer at the end of this blog post!

3. Football Friday Night for Sept 14, 2018

  2.  Dress rehearsal will start at 4:15.  All students must eat before they return for rehearsal.
  3. It’s homecoming and we will be doing a homecoming field show for halftime.
  4. WE WILL BE MARCHING A POSTGAME SHOW.  PLAN TO STICK AROUND AFTER THE GAME!

  1. Pickerington Band Festival is next weekend!
  1.  We are slated to take the field for the band fest at 8:15. I will send out a more detailed schedule for our dress rehearsal and travel schedule next week.  However, it is important to note TRANSPORTATION TO THE PICKERINGTON BAND FESTIVAL IS 1-WAY, ONLY.  There is not a return bus trip back to Central.  Parent, please plan on attending to show support for your Marching Tiger.
  2. I’m sure there are still areas in need of volunteers for band fest.  Please email [email protected] to find out what those areas are!
