Parents please email me with any questions you might have. Friday Timeline Our timeline has been modified quite a bit to accommodate all the seniors, cheer and football being recognized. If the recognition runs long, we will play amazing grace after pregame in the end-zone for seniors and parents. Unlike other performances, we will travel with our garment bags and hangers. All members will hang their uniforms in their garment bags before returning to Ohio Stadium to watch the rest of the show. Everyone is encouraged to wear PHSC apparel while seated in the stadium. I also encourage everyone to bring any weather appropriate gear. Temperatures may be colder once the sun sets. Expectations for all Marching Tigers in Ohio Stadium - Once we have concluded our performance we will meet at the Rotunda for a band photo. - After the photo we will begin our load-in procedures and change out of our uniforms. - We will meet at the band trailer as one unit then enter the stadium when all of the loading and changing is finished. - We will enter the stadium and find seats for the entire band towards the North end of the home side on A deck. - Students are expected to be in a seat with the band when not getting concessions or using the restroom. There is to be ZERO horse play. - If leaving the group for concessions or restrooms I expect students to be in groups of 2 or more. If any student is found wondering alone a Director, Staff member or Chaperone has the responsibility of escorting the student back to the group. - Students are expected to cheer for performing bands when appropriate. Be positive and supportive of all the groups who have earned the invitation to perform in the Shoe. - No outside food or drink is allowed in Ohio Stadium. Students should plan to eat dinner on their own. Note: The stadium has a NO CASH policy this year. Food prices are expensive in the Shoe. All, We have officially reached the halfway point in the competition season and learned ALL the charts for the show. This is always a great feeling, but it doesn't mean that we are finished. Now we start the process of going back through the show and filling in moments where we need more visual content and clean various sets and music. It is tedious work but makes for am awesome end product. Buckeye Invitational Buckeye Invitational tickets for October 15 can be found by clicking the link below. We perform at 5:45 and will stay the evening to watch the final bands and the Ohio State Marching Band. Report time for the kids will be in the afternoon. Make sure they are well fed before coming. Dinner will be on their own in Ohio Stadium after their performance. More detailed info to come! Friday Night Football
This Friday night we will travel to Groveport-Madison High school. Our uniform will be purple pants and LONG black socks. We will follow the timeline listed below. I'm looking forward to a great trip to one of our close neighbors in the conference. Friday Timeline 3:10 - Dress Rehearsal 4:10 - Load/snack/change 5:30 - Buses arrive 5:45 - Buses depart 6:15 - Arrive at GMHS (buses will actually park at the career center next door) 7:00 - kick-off 10:30 - Return to PHSC Parent volunteers Chris Hartung - truck help Robin Saionzkowski - Nurse Kevin Saionzkowski Leah Varone David Horton Laura Telfer Patricia Manley Patty Ricardson Natalie Matney Erin Gorgas All,
Thank you for an awesome weekend. We had a great night for a band contest as well as even planning and leadership from the booster programs. This makes qualifying for state marching band finals even sweeter! In addition to this week being homecoming week it is also 8th grade night on Friday. We will be hosting the Ridgeview 8th grade band and invite them to perform with the Marching Tigers during pregame and the first half of the game. Uniforms We will be wearing our purple uniform this Friday. Please make sure your students are wearing the correct uniform socks. Student hair is becoming increasingly a struggle. Students with long hair need to make a bun or ponytail that sits on top of their heads and doesn't push the uniform hats back on their head. This creates a "flat plume". Flat plumes are not uniform. 3:10 - Dress rehearsal on band practice field 3:40 - Dismiss. Take uniform and instruments with you! 4:30 - PERCUSSION ONLY, report to RJHS band room to rehearse with 8th grade percussion 5:30 - Full Band Report to Ridgeview parking lot 5:45 - Warm-up 6:25 - Parade from Ridgeview parking lot. 6:50 - pregame 7:00 - Kick-off *I want to continue to encourage SAFE car-pooling and/or parent drop off. 9:30 - return uniforms and clean band room State Marching Band Finals I have requested October 29th at Hilliard Bradley for our first choice and October 30th at Piqua for our second choice. I would plan on making sure these dates are completely clear of conflicts. Once we have an assigned time and date I will pass the information on to our booster club! Parent Volunteers Because of homecoming we will NOT be performing our competition show. We have to do a homecoming activity. This makes for an easy week for parent volunteers. We will still need uniform moms and help moving the 3 podiums. Look for a email from myself or Patty regarding volunteers. Good Morning Students and Families,
We are about to embark on our first contest of the season. We are really excited to perform 3.5 movements of our competition show Saturday night 8pm at the Pickerington Band Festival. Pickerington Band Festival Our home show is this Saturday at PHSN. Please invite your family and friends to attend and support the Marching Tigers. The booster clubs have been working very hard to organize a great show. If you get a chance, please say thank you to a Tiger or Panther Booster. This is a time consuming project for them, both clubs have done a great job collaborating. Not all booster clubs in town work as well together as our two band booster clubs. Uniform We will be wearing our competition white pants. This impacts a few details regarding uniform. Sock must be all white and students should wear neutral colored shorts under their uniform. Students need to continue to wear their show shirts for the season. I noted last Friday that many students are not following the jewelry policy regarding when in uniform. Students must not have hooped or colored ear rings of any kind when in uniform. Small ear rings are acceptable. Students must remove all bracelets and fingernail polish that is not neutral. Transportation The most important bit of parent information on Saturday night is transportation for the Marching Tigers is "one-way". Parents must pick-up their student at Pickerington NORTH at the end of the contest. This serves multiple functions, it encourages parents to come and support their child/children and saves money in our transportation budget. The band room will be open after the show if students want to return instruments that night. Ticket sales and booster help Tickets for the event are $7 per person. However, the boosters are still in need of additional volunteers. If you consider that volunteers get free admission and parents need to pick-up their child after the contest, it only makes sense for you to volunteer TODAY! It will cost $0 to help the band, see the show and pick-up your child! Saturday Timeline 4:30 - Dress rehearsal at PHSC 6:00 - Load/Change/Snack 6:50 - Depart for PHSN 7:10 - Arrive at PHSN 7:50 - Meet Host 8:05 - Warm-up 8:50 - Depart for Stadium 9:15 - PERFORM 9:30 - Awards (Seniors help present awards) & group performance of Amazing Grace 9:50 - Load percussion equipment, sound equipment, props. ****Students are dismissed to their parents after Band Fest. There is NO bussing back to PHSC!**** All,
Last week was a busy schedule for the Marching Tigers, we had a great week and accomplished so much. Before we begin covering details surrounding this week, please note that this Friday's away game is against Gahanna hosted at Thomas Worthington High School. See address listed below the timeline. Today's FYI will cover: - music check protocol - uniform update - Friday timeline - Parent volunteers Music Checks There have been many questions regarding music checks lately. We do ask members of the band to pass a very basic memorization check of notes and rhythms. This is checking comprehension and execution at its most basic form. We simply check for correct notes and rhythms. Students are NOT given a letter grade until they have passed the check. At that point students are given an A. We do ask students to help clean and pick-up the band room if a music check is not passed. This is a tangible consequence for not passing and motivation to get the assignment covered. Uniform Update We will be wearing full fall uniforms this Friday. For the most part uniforms last Friday went smoothly. There were a few things we observed on Friday that can be caught at home. - Shoes need to be clean and white - When we are wearing purple pants, students need to wear LONG black socks. We had many ankle socks which led to not passing uniform inspection. - The marching band "bibber's" have snap hems inside the bottom of each pant leg. Most students needed to pull up their snap hems in order to create a cleaner look. Continue to please make sure your student is passing uniform inspections by: - wearing clean white marching shoes - clean, long black socks - show shirt under the uniform - hair up and in the hat (when the hat is on) - neutral nail colors, ear rings/piercings and headbands. - clean white gloves (when required) Friday Night Timeline 3:10 - Dress rehearsal on band practice field 4:10 - Dismiss. Load semi trailer, eat, change into full uniform. (We will load by having students rotate through the trailer) 5:15 - Load busses (no bus swapping) 6:15 - Arrive at Thomas Worthington High School* 7:00 - Kick-off 9:45 - Load and depart for PHSC 10:45 - Arrive at PHSC * Gahanna HS is in the process of renovating their facilities. Their stadium has been demolished and will be playing football games at neutral sites for the next few years. The address for TWHS is: 300 W Dublin Granville Rd Worthington, OH Parent Volunteers for Friday Leah Varone Robin & Kevin Saionzkowski (nurse) Chris Hartung (truck help only) Jay & Ann Brandt Erin Gorgas Brittany Taylor Patricia Manley Natalie Matney Heidi Jennings (uniforms) Amy Menke (uniforms) All,
Thank you for a great week last week and being extremely flexible yesterday. Today's FYI will cover - practice schedule - uniform protocol change - Friday timeline - Fees - Parent volunteers. Practice Schedule Because of the importance of this week and lost practice time due to the parade we are shifting our practice days back. This week we have practice on Tuesday and Thursday at our normal times. This is not a last minute change. These dates have been on the schedule since July. After this week, practices will move up on Monday nights by 30 minutes. We will start at 5:30 and end at 8:30. There will be one additional time change later in the season. It is reflected on the google calendar for the band. Uniform Protocol Change Students will no longer keep full uniforms at home. We struggled last season to keep uniforms organized and clean. We even had to get the district involved in collecting a few items last year. This year all students will pick-up their uniform after the dress rehearsal and return it at the end of the game. Please make sure your student is passing uniform inspections by: - wearing clean white marching shoes - clean, long black socks - show shirt under the uniform - hair up and in the hat (when the hat is on) - neutral nail colors, ear rings/piercings and headbands. - clean white gloves (when required) Friday Night Timeline 3:10 - Dress rehearsal on band practice field 4:10 - Dismiss. Take instruments with you! 5:30 - Report to Ridgeview parking lot. Students park in grass lot closest to C3 church. (on the ridge)* 5:40 - Warm-up 6:20 - Parade from Ridgeview parking lot. 6:45 - pregame, Combined with North 7:00 - Kick-off Pay to Participate Fee As a reminder, this is a SCHOOL FEE from the district and not a booster fee. The district's policy on unpaid district fees can result in your child not participating in marching band. I fully anticipate the district to enforce this policy this week. Please make sure you are current on all school fees. Especially the band PTP. If you are experiencing financial hardship you may apply for payment plan options with the Athletic Office. Feel free to email me with any questions regarding this matter. Parent Volunteers for Friday Emily Haverfield Amy Menke David Horton Jay Brandt Patty Richardson Ron Winters Theresa Garee Laura Telfer Orville Williams Brittany Taylor Natalie Matney Happy Tuesday to everyone, We have a busy weekend and following week ahead of us! Please pay attention to the details so that we can all be on the same page! Today I will cover the following info: Friday Timeline Picture Day Uniforms for Friday, Saturday & Monday Labor Day Parade info and Concert at Victory Park Friday Night Timeline 3:30 - Report to school/Load semi trailer 4:20 - Load buses 4:30 - Depart for Wayne High School 6:15 - Arrive and unload at Wayne High School 7:00 - Kick-off 9:30 - Load/depart 11:15 - Arrive at PHSC (please communicate with your student so that you are on time picking up your student from PHSC) Saturday morning Picture day We have pictures schedules for Saturday morning. I will do my best to keep the following timeline. (but it always depends on the photographers) Even if you are not planning on buying photos be present for the full band photo as it will be used in the year book and future programs. Those choosing not to do individual photos may leave after their section photo is taken. Uniforms must be hung properly on racks before you go home. The uniform mothers will make you redo your pants until you can do it correctly!!!!! Picture day forms attached below! 9;30 - Band room opens 9:45 - Students in uniforms then head to commons 10:00 - Full band picture 10:20 - Section pictures, followed by individual pictures. 11:30 - Close up the band room. Uniforms for Friday, Saturday & Monday Friday - I'm currently leaning towards Full Uniforms on Friday. This means black socks and hair completely up. Students will need their hats as well. If the forecast changes and stays on the warm side at kick-off I will announce a change in uniform. Saturday - We will wear are Full Uniform without hats for picture day. Remember to wear black socks. Monday - Summer uniforms. White socks and appropriate undergarments. Labor Day Parade The Labor Day parade is a Pickerington Tradition. It begins with a parade and ends with a brief concert in Victory Park. Report time is 8am, Step-off for the parade is 10am. The concert start time changes from year to year. It simply begins when the parade has concluded and the bands are completely set-up. The best viewing of the concert is from a lawn chair on the Victory park basketball courts. Students will be dismissed at the conclusion of the concert which has ranged anywhere between 12;30-1:30 in years past. Please come support both awesome bands in Pickerington. Chaperones and load help for Friday Leah Varone (bus) Robin Saionzkowski (bus) Kevin Saionzkowski (bus) Melissa Wyatt Nurse (Nurse) Carol Webb (bus) Erin Gorgas (bus) Joy Shaw (bus) Patricia Manley (bus) Chris Hartung (Load and unload at PHSC) Happy Tuesday -Marching Tigers and Parents,
It has been an awesome summer and preseason up to this point. I'm very proud of our members and look forward to finally getting onto a football field and in the stands for Friday's game. We have much to cover for this weekend and beyond. This will be a longer than normal FYI, if you are looking for specific info I will be covering the following topics in our first addition FYI: 1. Practice Schedule. 2 Friday night timeline 3. Picture Day 4. Summer uniform dress code/full uniform dress code for photos. 5. Volunteers for Friday 6. PTP vs Booster fees. Practice Schedule and Changes from last year Last night we had a good talk as a band about the importance of being at practice now that school is starting. Over the summer I’m very much aware of making sure there is time for family and fun. Now that school is in motion, we need to minimize the number of absences taken by our membership. Missing practice for unapproved reasons can impact the student’s 3rd quarter time and potentially their membership in the organization. Wednesday practices are now from 3-6. This was based on the data collected by parents from last year’s survey. A large majority of families wanted to see more free time in the evenings. This is reflected in our band calendar found on the website. Friday Night Timeline 3:10 - Dress rehearsal on band practice field 4:10 - Dismiss. Take instruments with you! 5:30 - Report to Ridgeview parking lot. Students park in grass lot closest to C3 church. (on the ridge)* 5:45 - Warm-up 6:25 - Parade from Ridgeview parking lot. 6:50 - pregame 7:00 - Kick-off * In order for the parking to work I want to encourage SAFE car-pooling and/or parent drop off. I will take class time to explain this plan with the entire band in class. Picture Day 9/3 Forms for picture day can be picked up outside my office. The band room will be opened at 9:15 am for any full uniform concerns. We will start with our full band photo at 10am sharp! We will do our full band photo this year without instruments. Section and individual photos will be with instruments and will begin immediately after the full band photo. White shoes will be worn as well as black socks. No hooped, large or colorful earring will be permitted. Hair must be up for the full and section photos. Individual photo can be taken with your hair down. Pictures will be done around 12:00. Summer Uniform Dress Code Students will wear their white polo shirts and purple jersey shorts with white ankle socks and white drill master shoes. Hair past the jawline will need to be in a bun or ponytail. No colorful or large jewelry is permitted. Students will want to make sure their undergarments are a neutral white or light grey to prevent any unfortunate wardrobe issues. Shirts need to be tucked in at all times. Volunteers for Friday Parent volunteers will be issued a badge to wear at all times before entering the visitors side track gate. Brian W. will have the badges for you and will collect them at the end of the night. This does not get you into the press box or into the bleachers. You may bring a folding chair for your comfort. In other words the passes are for field access only. Friday's team consists of the following parents: Emily Haverfield Jennifer Dryer Chris Hartung Amy Menke David Horton Jay Brandt Ann Brandt Kim Kinnison Ron Winters Theresa Garee Orville Williams Pay to Participate vs. Booster Fees I have yet to receive any updates from the district regarding balance dues for Pay to Participate fees. This is simply a friendly reminder to get it on your "family radar". If you have yet to pay your PTP fee with the district or set up a payment plan with the athletic department the district has the option to prevent your student from participating in marching band performances. The boosters do NOT have the ability to do this with booster fees. We do hope everyone understands that our booster fees help fund the many aspects of the band that the school does not. Our parents will be able to see and hear what your dollars support at our first contest! Good morning Marching Tiger families,
On Friday, March 11 the PHSC Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will attend OMEA Large Group Contest. It has been over 2 years now since we have attended OMEA large group contest for concert band. In short, the band will perform 2-3 selections for 3 OMEA judges for a rating and written critique. This evaluation is an integral part of the music education we provide each student. As you read through this FYI be sure that you are looking at the correct timelines for your childs band. They are specific for each performing group! Uniform Students are to wear "concert black". this simply means that we are going to dress in such a way so that we do not draw attention to any single individual, rather dress plainly so that the music is the focus. Gentlemen are to wear black shoes, black socks, black pants, white collared shirt, dark tie, optional: vest/black jacket. Ladies are to wear black shoes, black dress/black pants/black skirt. The skirt/dress must be passed the knee. Black top, black shirt, black sweater. The shoulders must be covered and there should be none to almost no accent colors in the outfit. I will emphasize again, we wear concert black to draw attention to the music making, not the individuals making music! Wear concert black. Location Teays Valley High School 3887 State Route 752 Ashville, Ohio 43103 Spectator entrances are will be marked into the building. There are no masking protocols for Teays Valley. There is no admission cost to attend, there will be some concession options for you in the cafeteria. All performances will be in the Teays Valley auditorium. Symphonic Band Timeline 4:45 - Report to PHSC 5:15 - depart for Teays Valley HS 6:15 - Arrive at TVHS 7:15 - Warm-up 7:45 - Perform 8:40 - Depart for PHSC 9:40 - Arrive at PHSC Wind Ensemble Timeline 7:00 - Arrive at PHSC 7:35 - Depart for Teays Valley 8:35 - Arrive at TVHS 9:35 - Warm-up 10:10 - Perform 11:15 - Depart for PHSC 12:15 - Arrive at PHSC We need potentially 1 more volunteer to ride with the Wind Ensemble as the directors have to stay at Teays Valley. Please contact me if you are able to ride and help with attendance this Friday evening! As always, please email for any clarification, questions or concerns! All,
My apologies for the late FYI. Thank you for everyone's help last Friday. We made things work and managed to help the North band get their instruments back to their high school. There is an important survey in your email from Dr Parulekar. In an effort to better serve our band programs, the directors have put together an end of season survey for both parents and students. If you did not receive this email, be sure to look in your spam folders. This Friday's playoff game is against Upper Arlington at Westerville Central High School. Ticket link and map are at the bottom of the FYI. Uniform Students did a great job of wearing the appropriate layers last Friday. The same rules will apply this Friday as well. We will wear our Purple uniforms with layers for warmth with raincoats as an additional layer. If students have taken more than one raincoat home we expect those extra coats are turned in this Friday. Timeline 4:30 - Report and Load 5:00 - Depart for Westerville Central High School 6:00 - Arrive at Westerville Central 6:48 - Central Performs Pregame 7:07 - Kickoff TBD - Depart for Central TBD - Arrive at Central (Best guess is after 10 pm) Chaperones Bus 1 - Patty Richardson, Sheila Kelley Bus 2 - Natalie Matney, Vanessa Niekamp Bus 3 - Kevin and Robin Saionzkowski Bus 4 - Mark and Kelly Brick |
