Again, I'm 12 hours late on posting an FYI, my sincerest apologies. Last week's football game was an interesting one. We hit major traffic going into the downtown and spent a solid hour sitting in the left lane of 70 West. Olentangy Orange was gracious enough to provide the SSB for the game. If you have an opportunity to thank them, please do.
This Friday's game is at St. Francis DeSales. It's location is also in a tough spot of Columbus. I caution everyone to check traffic when planning to attend the game.
Huge shout out to uniform volunteers Vanessa and Katie for retrieving the faded raincoats from the cleaners. With the band absences and use of the faded coats they were able to provide an additional layer for the kids. I should also take a second recognize the efforts of all those who've volunteered to help with uniforms this season. It's a huge undertaking and greatly appreciated by everyone. Thank you.
The students did much better this past Friday dressing for the weather. I would continue to encourage students to wear long black socks so that they can tuck in their layer under the purple bibbers into their black socks.
Game and post game
We are the visiting team this week and will not need to perform halftime. Per OHSAA regulations we will perform first at halftime.
The weather is extremely cold when we return home after games. Parents/Guardians please make sure you have discussed a plan for pickup. Pick up your child in a timely manor. It is what's best for everyone.
4:30 - Load/Change
5:15 - Depart for DeSales
6:15 - Arrive
7:03 - Kick-Off
TBD - Return to PHSC
Good Wednesday Morning,
This Friday Tiger Football will play in the second round of the Playoffs. We will be playing at Upper Arlington High School. The kickoff is at 7:00pm and the Central fans will be on the Visitor's side.
This is going to be another cold evening of football. Students are expected to layer appropriately. We had a freshman show up wearing a single t-shirt layer to stand outside in 20 degree weather last Friday for hours. This is dangerous and we must dress appropriately. The staff needs the help of parents and guardians to ensure that the students are dressed appropriately.
Many students had on hooded sweatshirts that were not white/purple/black. Because of the cold I allowed it to pass. This week I need everyone to make sure they layer in clothes that fit the uniform requirements. RED SWEATSHIRTS hanging out of uniforms will not suffice and I will ask the students to place their hoods back in their uniform every time.
Other items that do not pass uniform inspection are sport team beanie hats, unzipped uniform pants, ANY ITEM THAT IS NOT SCHOOL COLORS.
Students will be allowed to bring warm blankets for the stands only. Blankets must be folded and carried in by hand or in a small bag.
4:00 - Report/Dress rehearsal
5:15 - Depart
6:15 - Arrive at UAHS
6:40 - In Stadium
6:54 - Pregame
7:00 - Kickoff
Due to this being a very easy trip without the semi trailer hauling ALL of our sound and pit equipment we will operating with a very small booster group. Just enough to help with attendance and keeping the peace on busses.
We have officially made it to the post season. Thank you for everyone's help in making the 2019 competitive season a great success! The band achieved so much and I felt encouraged by their always positive attitude to work hard and grow.
Post Season Marching Band Expectations
Post season football is slightly different in that we will not perform our elaborate halftime show. We are still the marching Tigers and will be performing our much anticipated Script Tigers once the play (McBeth) has finished its run. This requires near perfect attendance and the support of parents and family to help get the students to the school on Fridays.
We are currently trying to wrap up auditions for the band and will begin rehearsing concert band music for our holiday concert next month. In other words, we will be supporting the Tiger football team until the state championship game if necessary, but we will not be preparing other elaborate halftime shows for these games. Our focus is on the normal progression that is best for the Pickerington Central Band program.
Post Season Uniform
The post season uniform is always going to be purple pants and black socks. I will modify the uniform dress code to include neutral beanie hats. They can be white, black, purple. Please no logos of any kind unless they are for PHSC. Additionally, kids can wear a warm glove under their white band gloves. I highly encourage everyone to purchase or wear a thermal layer. The trick to staying warm is layering under the uniform.

Thank you for a fantastic final contest in New Philadelphia. I'm very thankful for those who made the trek, we loved hearing you cheer in the stands. The band finished their regular competition season scoring a record high 271.25! They finish second overall, won best visual performance and won the Esprit De Corps award. Esprit De Corps is awarded to the band who represented themselves in a positive light on and off the field and for those who carry a confidence and pride in the program! It was a great day.
Due to an increasing chance of rain throughout the day I have decided to reschedule rehearsal to immediately after school in an attempt to get practice in. Our rehearsal will run from 3:30-5:30. Thank you for your understanding as we prepare for State Contest on Saturday.
We will not be traveling to Grove City this Friday. It was errantly added to the calendar at the beginning of the year. This is a great opportunity to let your students attend the game as a "typical" student and participate in the student section. Additionally, there will not be practice after school.
We are finally able to say that our State Contest date and time is finalized. We will be at Hilliard Bradley HS performing at 8:30. Awards will immediately follow our performance. Its going to be an exciting day for our last show.
As a sign of appreciation the administration has again offered to buy dinner for the Marching Tigers before State Contest. If available to help with set up and tear down of this meal please contact Robin at the PHSCbandbooster@gmail.com email. The hurdle for us to overcome is the craft bazaar. It is my understanding that we will be able to use the commons to feed the kids at 4:00pm but will most likely have craft show stragglers still in the building. A good group of parents willing to help this meal go smoothly is very much needed and appreciated. Many hands make light work! I'll order the pizza to arrive at Central by 4:00. Be sure to thank Mrs. Tennenbaum and our admin team for sponsoring dinner for the Marching Tigers on Saturday.

Good Morning Everyone!
I want to congratulate everyone involved last Friday. We had a great night and really demonstrated some class. I really love how our band allows the rivalry to remain on the field yet remains extremely supportive of the entire community at the same time. Thank you for fostering this at home.
Planning for Playoff's
We are entering into the last two weeks of the regular marching band season, I want to take a moment to reiterate that playoff games have been on the calendar since the issuing of the calendar. It is expected that every Marching Tiger participates and plans accordingly just like the regular season. It is no secret that our football team is very good. Pretending that our appearance in the playoffs is a surprise is not a valid excuse.
Playoff games are when we perform script tigers and do other fun things. I will cancel script tigers when I receive notice of too many unexcused absences and will do a simple block band show.
New Philadelphia Contest
We are approaching our last District Contest of the season. This is our last attempt to improve our numeric score and to protect our overall rating of Superior before our appearance at State Marching Band Finals. Please consider making the trip out east to support the Marching Tigers.
Meals for Saturday will be on their own. Students are expected to eat a good lunch before they arrive to school Saturday afternoon. All band members will have time to eat dinner at New Philly after our performance and before awards. By law students are not to eat on the school buses. Not all drivers enforce this law the same. It is up to the driver's discretion. Please be respectful of how the bus driver decides to enforce this law when carrying on snacks or food for the bus ride.
It's going to be a very late arrival Saturday night. Please plan accordingly, do not leave your child sitting in the cold! And please continue to refrain from picking up kids at the gray doors behind the dumpsters. This is a safety concern that is easily controlled by keeping ALL cars out of the cove and in the parking lot. (The kids are young and can walk!)
2:00 - Dress rehearsal
3:00 - Load/change
4:00 - Depart for Quaker Stadium (please note the location is not the high school. See previous FYI.)

Congrats to the Seniors and parents who have been apart of the Marching Tigers for the past 4 years. I am very proud of everyone and look forward to celebrating!

State Marching Band Finals
State Marching Band Finals will be held at Hilliard Bradley on November 2nd. Our tentative performance time is 8:30. Our time is still subject to change until the end of this week. I will keep everyone informed.
Thank you for volunteering to chaperone. Please arrive at the High School 30 minutes before departure.
8th Grade night and Homecoming was a great success! Thank you to all that participated and helped with pit equipment.
It's Rivalry week and we are traveling to North High School. It's always an exciting football game and one of the best High School football game atmospheres around, though it's always a better when the game is played in the Ditch!
Information regarding the game can be found in this graphic from the district office.
Student safety is a huge concern for this event. Field passes are limited to alleviate the strain put on the law enforcement officers. As of Tuesday morning I'm not aware of how many field passes I will receive.
Please plan to arrive early to support the Marching Tigers and North Pride in a special combined pregame. It's fun to play up the rivalry of the football programs but both bands are very supportive of each other and we try to take every opportunity to combine as a symbol of community support. See the timeline pregame details.

4:20 - Load/Change
5:20 - Depart for Lakeview
5:45 - Arrive at Lakeview

Senior Night Update
Looking ahead to week 9 we need to make sure all seniors have filled out the senior bio survey. Please note: in the interest of time we will edit the bios down to be concise and remove anything that is not appropriate or that does not pertain to your education, accomplishments and future plans.
New Philly Contest update (10/26)
Our performance time in New Philadelphia is at 8:15pm. Awards are not until 9:45! It's going to be a late evening, plan accordingly for student pickup. Student report time will be in the early afternoon.
The football stadium is NOT located at the New Philadelphia High School! Please see the map below!
OMEA State Marching Band Finals Update
We are currently scheduled for the November 2 at Hilliard Bradley. The date and location is locked in. Our performance time is currently 8:30pm but is still subject to change. I will keep you all posted.
The Marching Tigers had a fantastic performance this past Saturday. There must be something about the Canal Winchester stadium our band loves, this is the second year they have won the Canal Winchester Classic. As always we are very thankful for all those who volunteer to help!
Week 7 is a challenging week because of all the additional events taking place. I will go though each event in calendar order.
We have been asked to play a short gig at Sycamore Creek Elementary for their 10 year anniversary. Initially I asked leadership to play the gig. Since a large majority of our band come from SCE I have opened up the gig to leadership and anyone who went to Sycamore Creek Elementary. It's not a mandatory gig but is a great community service opportunity for the students. The dress is Pickerington Central gear and the report time is 5:15. The gig is only 30 minutes, 5:30-6:00. All students should take their instruments home after school (on Thursday) then bring them back Friday morning.
8th Grade Night - Pregame
Friday night we invite all the current 8th graders to perform pregame with the Marching Tigers. It's a special night for us as we welcome all perspective Marching Tigers into the family.
Homecoming Announcement - Halftime
At halftime the Marching Tigers will participate in the Homecoming celebration. We will Not be running a portion of the competition show.
Competition Show Run - Postgame
We plan on getting a full run of the competition show as soon as we can clear the field Friday night. Please plan on sticking around and supporting the Marching Tigers. The trade off is the late-night dismissal but it's worth the effort to make sure the band stays fresh on the new ending we are adding.
4:00 Report to the HS
5:30 Load and change
6:15 Line-up in the LT lot.
6:20 Parade to Tiger Stadium
6:35 Arrive at Tiger Stadium
Every year the band participates in a charity event supporting the Ronald McDonald House. We play for change donations at various McDonalds restaurants in Pickeringtion to help offset the living costs of those seeking treatment at Children's Hospital. It's a fantastic way for our students to learn how to be selfless, develop a concern for others and to help those in need.
The band will perform for 2 hours with intermittent breaks starting at 9am and finishing at 11am. Students will need to transport their own instruments to their assigned location. I will post the band lists on the google classroom not on the blog to protect student anonymity. Your child will tell you what location they need to go to Saturday morning, thank you for your understanding.
I will have the band room open until 12pm for students to return instruments to the band room.

McDonalds location 2

Congratulations to Mr Gorgas!
For those who may not know, Mr. Gorgas became somewhat of a sensation this weekend when he had his debut as a Music Arranger for the Ohio State University Marching Band.
He arranged this past week’s halftime show which ended up going viral, gaining the attention of current and former astronauts and NASA.
I wanted to take a second to say “I know him” and you do too!
He’s not the kind of guy to draw attention to himself so I figured I needed to share his accomplishments with his students
If you get a chance, please tell him congrats!
Mr. Stowe is Director of Bands at Pickerington High School Central. He's in his 7th year of teaching in Pickerington and 15th year of his career. Mr. Stowe holds two Bachelors degrees in Music Education and Performance from Capital University and a Masters of Music from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
